Thelma Joyce Stephens

Thelma Joyce "Nanny" Stephens, aged 82, of Trenton, GA, peacefully passed away on August 17, 2024, surrounded by her loving family.

A funeral service to celebrate Joyce’s life will take place on Tuesday, August 20, 2024, at 12:00 PM in the Trenton Chapel of Moore Funeral Home. Following the service, she will be laid to rest at Brown Gap Cemetery. 

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM and on Tuesday from 11:00 AM until the service hour.

Born on May 12, 1942, to the late Johnny and Minnie Tinker Barton, Thelma's greatest joy was her family. A devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, she was affectionately known as "Nanny" by her family. She was a hard worker and a skilled seamstress, working many years at Galladay and Atlantic Finishing. The Christmas season was particularly special to her, bringing her immense joy and warmth. Thelma was a person of deep faith, embodying the values of the Christian community.

She is survived by her beloved husband, Aubrey Gene Stephens; her children, David Stephens, Thelma Jean (Michael) Housley, and Linda Joyce (Scott) Neel; her siblings, Doyce (Martha) Barton and Darlene Childress; her grandchildren, Amanda Stephens, Isabella Stephens, Tish Reuben, Melissa (Rick) Shahan, Jerry (Amanda) Williams Jr., Michelle Hicks, Kenneth Hicks Jr., Kimberly Mace, Brandi Hicks, Emily Housley, and Corey (Selina) Housley; as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of friends who will remember her fondly.

Thelma is preceded in death by her parents and her sisters, Dalpha Young, Imagene Cloud, and Bernice Ott.
