Rachel Parker Mathews

Rachel Parker Mathews, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully at the age of 85 on August 23, 2023. She was a resident of the New Salem Community on Lookout Mountain.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 26, 2023 at 11 AM ET at the Trenton Chapel of Moore Funeral Home. Family and friends are invited to pay their respects on Friday, August 25, 2023 from 4-8 PM ET and from 9 AM ET until the funeral hour on Saturday. Burial will take place at Ascalon Cemetery.

Born on March 5, 1938 to Frank and Lelar Ledford Parker, Rachel leaves behind a legacy that will forever be cherished by all those who knew her. A faithful member of Ascalon Baptist Church for many years, Rachel served her Lord, her family, and those around her selflessly. She was also known for her love of flowers and always had a unique tendency to feed any stray that came across her path; she absolutely loved animals. She will be missed dearly.

Rachel is survived by her devoted husband, Herbert Mathews; sons, Perry Mathews and Stacey Mathews; grandson, Sherman Tyler Mathews; several nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and nephews, and a vast circle of friends who will cherish the memories they shared with her.

In addition to her parents, Rachel was preceded in death by her son, Herbert Sherman Mathews; sisters, Mildred Price and Marcie Mathews; and brother, Frank Parker Jr.
