James William “Peck” Pennington, 77, passed away peacefully in the early hours of May 11, 2022. Peck spent the last few days of his life surrounded by four generations of family, in the home he and his wife built decades prior.
An avid outdoorsman and Georgia native, Peck spent much of his childhood discovering and exploring caves all over the sides of Lookout Mountain. He also developed an interest in hunting and would continue this throughout his life.
In 1966 Peck met Judith (Judy) Elaine Lumpkin, and they were married shortly thereafter. Together they built a home that would become the center of family life for themselves, their children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Peck spent much of the last two decades of his life doing what he loved most: prairie dog hunting and fishing with his wife. Together they traveled all over the United States, often taking their family and friends with them. In his final years Peck would often spend his days at home hosting shooting competitions with his family and friends. Always a generous man, he would often allow others to win.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Hershel and Evelyn Pennington, wife, Judy Pennington and son, Jeremy Pennington.
Left to cherish his memories are daughters, Barbara (Danny) Blevins and Cristy (Brian Sherman) Cox; sisters, Ginger (Larry) Scruggs and Karen (Eddie) McBryar; brother, Kenneth (Becky) Pennington; grandchildren, Brandon (Alex) Barton, Corey (Kristen) Barton, Macy Cox, Gabrielle Cox, and Ambry Cox; great-grandchildren Eli Barton and Kason Barton.
A celebration of life will be held at 4:00 pm on Friday, May 13, 2022 at Moore Funeral Home in Trenton, GA with Brother Jim Blaylock officiating. The family will receive friends on Friday from 2:00 PM – 4:00 PM.
