REVEREND GENE CLINGAN
IDER AL: Reverend Otis E. “Gene” Clingan age 82 passed away Thursday, October 23, 2014. Gene was a native of Birchwood, Tennessee. He was the fourth of ten children born to George and Laura Clingan.
He attended school in Meigs County, Tennessee and graduated from Kirkman High School, Chattanooga, Tennessee. He attended Tennessee Temple University in Chattanooga for three years. He attended Luther Rice Seminary Jacksonville, Florida and graduated with a Bachelor of Theology Degree while pastoring.
He pastored five full time Southern Baptist Churches for twenty five years in Georgia, Florida and Tennessee. He also served in many positions in Southern Baptist Association in areas where he pastored. He was a volunteer to go to Long Beach, California to help in a Layman’s Crusade. He also served as a volunteer in Southern Baptist Sunday School Florida Enlargement Campaigns in Holland, Michigan. He also served as a volunteer Chaplin for the Chattanooga Juvenile Detention Home.
After retiring from pastoral work he achieved his Funeral Directors License and Insurance License and served as a Funeral Director and Chaplin at Turner Funeral Home, Chattanooga, Tennessee, Kerby Funeral Home, Henagar, Alabama and Moore Funeral Home, Trenton, Georgia.
He is survived by his loving wife, Jean Clingan; daughters, Janet Sexton, Fayetteville, NC, Sandra Yvonne Sorrell, Rock Springs, GA, Anna Eugina Hughes; step daughter, Lori Hicks, Ider, AL; step sons, Eddie Brown, Mark Brown and Kevin Brown all of Ider, AL; sisters, Joyce McDonough, Panama Beach, FL and Glenda Faye Conger, Ft. Myers, FL; brothers, George Edward Clingan, Chattanooga, TN, Dale Clingan, Cookeville, TN, Bobby Clingan, Rock Springs, GA; seven grandchildren and two great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM EDT Sunday, October 26, 2014 in the Chapel of Moore Funeral Home with Reverend Bob Patty, Reverend Steve Lea officiating. Interment will be held in Chestnut Grove Cemetery, Ider, Alabama
Visitation will be held Saturday 5:00 PM ~ 8:00 PM EDT Sunday 12:00 PM ~ 2:00 PM EDT
