Margarette Brannon Marshall

August 2, 1929 — September 10, 2024

Trenton

Margarette R. Brannon Marshall, age 95, peacefully passed away on September 10, 2024. A cherished resident of the Trenton area for the past 50 years, she was born on August 2, 1929, in Fyffe, Alabama, to Homer Jackson Brannon and Laura Octavia Marshall Brannon.

Margarette is lovingly remembered by her two sons, Donald Adair Marshall of Trenton, Georgia, and Rodney Kyle Marshall of Whitwell, Tennessee. She was a proud grandmother to Deborah Norton (Bartlee) of Cleveland, TN, Sabra Marshall (Amanda Horner) of Chattanooga, TN, Eric Marshall (Alex) of Dunlap, TN, Rachael Marshall Scottsdale, AZ, Natalie Violette (Joey) of Goldsboro, NC, Michelle Biashvili (George) of Athens, GA, William Marshall of Chattanooga, TN, and Melissa Marshall (Jeremy Lake) of Chattanooga, TN. Her great-grandchildren include Trace Hedrick, Tripp Norton, Tenslee Norton, Adalynn Marie Marshall, Kendall Blair Violette, Kimberly Drew Violette, Kestle Joy Violette, Amery Samara Marshall, and Isaac Samuel Marshall.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, William P. (Bill) Marshall, with whom she shared 62 years of marriage before his passing on January 26, 2013. Margarette was also preceded in death by all her siblings, including two brothers and three sisters.

Her formative years were spent in East Lake and East Ridge, Tennessee, where she attended Central High School, graduating in 1947. Following high school, Margarette began her professional journey as an operator for Southern Bell Telephone, a role she held for four years until she married Bill on May 23, 1951. During their time together, Margarette supported Bill through his service in the United States Air Force, working as an operator and attending Emily Griffith Business College in Denver, Colorado.

In 1954, they returned to Chattanooga with their two sons, where Margarette dedicated herself to being a housewife until Bill’s employment relocated them to Northern Indiana. After two years, Bill launched his own business in recreational vehicles and housing. For twenty years, she played a crucial role as the accountant, secretary, and treasurer of the thriving company, which expanded to ten plants in ten states and employed 1,200 people.

At the age of 56, Margarette and Bill sold the business and relocated back to the Trenton area, where they embraced community life, fostered friendships, and dedicated their time to volunteering for various causes.
