Laura Ruth Gifford Ellison 77, of Ider, AL passed away on April 23, 2021 surrounded by her family. She was born January 18, 1944 to the late Albert (Buck) and Opal Gifford of Trenton, GA. She was a 1962 graduate of Dade County High School, where she was very active in sports and music.
Laura Ruth married Johnny Ellison on May 27, 1961. Laura Ruth was a long-time employee of Shaw Industries where she retired after 25 years working at their Trenton Spinning Mill. Mrs. Ellison was an accomplished piano player and gospel singer. Her love for music began as a child singing in the choir at Calvary Baptist Church. In high school, she was a member of the Chorus and Glee Club. She continued her love for music by singing in numerous gospel groups including her family group “The Visionaires”. For the past 31 years, she has been a loyal and dedicated member of Five Points Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School and was the church pianist.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Albert (Buck) and Opal Gifford, her sister, Peggy Gifford Fulk and brother, Bobby Joe Gifford.
She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Reverend Johnny Ellison, Ider, AL; sons, Lloyd (Jill) Ellison, Bryant, AL, Carey (Melissa Womack) Ellison, Pisgah, AL, Tracy Ellison, Ider, AL; sister, Carlene (Ted) Camp, Trenton, GA; grandchildren, Chelsea (Brian) Karg, Keely Ellison, Brayden Ellison, Jacob Schauer, Madison Schauer, Megan Schauer, Adam Womack, Lily Womack, Abbey Womack, Chloe Womack; great-grandchildren, Harrison Scott Karg, Stetson Levi Karg, Lane Gamble, Lincoln Gamble; several nieces and nephews. Special family friends: Michelle Yates, Laney Liles, Seger Davidson, Payton Davidson, Wade Rogers and Brent Mason
A Funeral Service for family and friends is scheduled Tuesday, April 27, 2021 at 2pm in the chapel of Moore Funeral Home Trenton, GA. Interment will follow in Lake Hills Memorial Gardens.
Visitation: Sunday 2-8 pm, Monday 4-8 pm
