Kasey Atkinson Peters, age 66, left this world surrounded by her family on Thursday, October 31, 2024, in Chattanooga, Tennessee. An only child, she was born on a rainy Sunday, November 1, 1957, just after midnight, in Charleston, West Virginia to Charles (“Charlie”) and Jeanne (Vance) Atkinson.
In 1958, Kasey moved with her parents to Jacksonville Beach, Florida. The family joined Beach United Methodist Church where they were active members for nearly 50 years. An avid supporter of the church in a variety of ways, Kasey was especially dedicated to attending Sunday School, taking part in the youth group, playing on the church adult bowling league, serving as a communion steward, teaching vacation bible school, participating in the activities of the United Methodist Women organization for which she served on the Executive Board and as President in the early 1980s, attending bible studies, singing in the choir, and playing handbells. Later, Kasey attended Palms Presbyterian Church where she was honored to serve as a deacon and volunteered for the No One Dies Alone organization.
Beach United Methodist Church was also where Kasey met David Peters in 1972. They married in May of 1977 and welcomed their daughter Katie in September of 1978 followed by her sister Rebecca in May of 1984. Kasey and David were happily married for 47 years.
As a community volunteer, Kasey served at the local soup kitchen and ran sound for recitals at the Thelma Miller School of Dance. She consistently supported the Humane Society, Forever Home, Saving Grace, and many other animal rescue organizations.
Predeceased by her parents, Kasey is survived by her husband David, her daughters Katie Myers (Adam) and Rebecca “Becky” Mendez (Manny), and her grandchildren Gabriel Myers and Nichole, Jamilyn, and James Mendez, as well as many members of her extended family.
A private service will be held at her home in Trenton, Georgia, officiated by Rev. Katie Day of Pleasant Hill Presbyterian Church.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Jacksonville Humane Society, Mastering Love Rescue and Sanctuary, or Luck’s Rescue.
