Janell York Spivey, age 78, passed away peacefully at her home in Higdon, AL on December 14, 2023 while surrounded by her loving family and loved ones.
A Funeral Service to honor the life of Janell will be held on Saturday, December 16, 2023 at 1:00 PM ET at Shiloh Church of the Nazarene in Higdon, AL with Brother Wayland Stewart officiating. She will be laid to rest at Payne Gap Cemetery.
Friends and Family are invited to come together to pay their respects on Friday, December 15, 2023 from 1:00 to 5:00 PM ET and on Saturday from 11:00 AM until the service begins.
Born on February 25, 1945, in Flat Rock, Alabama to the late Olen and Lura Adams York, Janell was cherished as a loving daughter, sister, and friend. In 1964, she found lifelong happiness when she married the love of her life, Hermon Spivey. Together they embarked on a journey filled with love and devotion. As a mother to two fine sons, Janell cherished her role as both wife and Moma (or Mamo) wholeheartedly. Later in life, she embraced the joys of being a grandmother with adoration and warmth. Janell's soothing presence extended beyond her immediate family. With a green thumb and an undeniable passion for gardening, she nurtured vibrant blooms that mirrored the beauty she cultivated within each relationship she held dear. Her hands skillfully canned various foods that would nourish not only bodies but also souls. Whether it was sewing garments or providing steadfast care to those around her, Janell's gentle spirit touched countless lives. Fueled by her unwavering faith in God, Janell remained an active member of Shiloh Church of the Nazarene for many years. Her spiritual convictions served as a guiding light, inspiring her actions and uplifting those fortunate enough to cross paths with her.
Janell's memory will forever be cherished by her beloved husband of 59 years, Hermon Spivey, who has been her unwavering rock and steadfast companion throughout life's journey. She is also survived by her devoted sons, Labron (Kay) Spivey and Chris (May) Spivey; her adoring brothers, Dennis (Barbra) York, Terry (Patricia) York, and Randall (Cynthia) York; her loving sister, Hilda (Toby) Smith; her cherished grandchildren, Courtney Spivey, Caillou (Ashley) Spivey, Sarah Spivey, and Crystal Spivey; her step-grandchildren, Carl (Stephanie) Wall and Corey Wall; as well as six great-grandchildren. Janell also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, and a host of family and friends who hold dear the memories created in their time together.
In addition to her parents, Janell was preceded in death by her sister, Shelia (Charles) Wilbanks and her brother-in-law, Charles Hawkins.
The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to her nurse, Ashley Hulgan of Amedysis Home Health, her nurses Heather and Deb of Hospice of Alabama, and the many other helpful staff members for their compassionate care of Janell during her last days.
