TRENTON, GA: Imogene Martin, was called home to be with the Lord on July 13, 2012, surrounded by her loving family. She was born July 10, 1936 in Flat Rock, Alabama.
She created an atmosphere of love in her home, and loved her family, church family, neighbors and friends and above all her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She was an active faithful member of Edgewood Baptist Church, Trenton, Georgia, for some 40 years and prior to that Beulah’s Chapel in Flat Rock, Alabama. For many years she was active in Dade County Girl Scouts and various Cancer Relay Walks, vacation bible schools and Sunday school teacher. She enjoyed camping, gardening of vegetables and beautiful flowers, traveling, floral arrangements and sewing. One of her ongoing semi-annual all time favorite trips was the Singing In The Smokies featuring Inspirations amongst many other gospel groups.
She attended Dade County High School, later earned her GED and was awarded a scholarship. She studied also in Floral Arranging. While playing tennis in Trenton as a teenager, she met John William Martin who was working on the roads in the area for the State of Georgia; he was from Banks County, Georgia. They married on October 31, 1954 and had two daughters, Sharon Yvonne and Sandra Diane Martin. Though they moved to Banks County for awhile, they soon returned to Dade County to call it home.
She will be lovingly remembered and missed this side of Heaven by her husband of 59 years, John William Martin; daughter and son-in-law, Sharon and Casey Morton and daughter and son-in-law, Sandra and Sandy Clark;; grandchildren, Nathen Denver York and his wife Ashley; great grandson, Mason; George Clark, IV and his wife, Bridget; great grandchildren, Destiny and Westin; Kyle Clark and great granddaughter, Bailey and Cassie LaShea Clark.
She is survived by her siblings, Leon Christopher, Cecil Christopher and his wife, Wanda Jean; Iona Pennington and her husband Millard and sister-in-laws, Hazel Christopher and Betty Christopher and a host of nieces and nephews, cousins and other residents and friends. \ She was preceded in death by her parents, Tom and Ora Jane Christopher; brothers, Willie Christopher, James Christopher, Lawrence Christopher and his wife Leetta, sister, Louise Weldon and her husband, Dan and sister-in-law, Dalpha Christopher. She also has lost several nephews and cousins.
Funeral services were held July 16, 2012 at Edgewood Baptist Church with Brother Joe Cooper and Brother Gary Tipton officiating. Interment was held in Lake Hills Memorial Gardens.
