Gay Frances Self

October 12, 1942 — September 15, 2024

Trenton

On Sunday, September 15th, 2024 Gay Frances Self, loving wife, mother, Grandmother, and Great-Grandmother succumbed to her 14-year battle with dementia at the age of 81.

Gay was born to George and Frances Munsell in Miami, FL on October 12th, 1942. She was the youngest of 4 children and was a Florida girl through and through. She loved relaxing on the beach during the day and dancing her heart away at the youth center in the evenings. She was always listening to music and was a die-hard Miami Dolphins fan.

Gay met Gene in the first grade but it wasn’t till the summer of 1962 that Gene finally got up the courage to ask her out and they have been together ever since. Gay and Gene celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary earlier this year.

Throughout their lives, Gay and Gene had the privilege of residing in several places, including Madrid, Spain; Miami, Tallahassee, and Lake Mary, Florida. During this time, they also welcomed two sons, Timothy Self and Jeffrey Self. In 2015, they made their final move to Trenton, Georgia, to be closer to family.

Gay served as a Pastor’s Wife for over 40 years at Graham Baptist Church, Tamiami Baptist Church, and Faith Baptist Church. During her ministry, she taught children and adult women’s Sunday School and worked with the Women’s Missionary Union and Home Missions.

Gay was preceded in death by her parents George and Frances, her 3 older siblings Thomas, Jean, and Raymond, and her youngest son, Jeffery. She is survived by her husband, Gene, her son Timothy and his wife Susan, and her three grandchildren Stephani and (Brandon) Smith, Cory and (Lauren) Self, and Brittany and (Taylor) Mai, along with numerous great-grandchildren.

A celebration of life will be held on September 21st at 1 pm at the Self Residence. Flowers may be sent to 201 Lake Hills Place, Trenton, GA 30752.

“ Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor dismayed, for the
