REV. FRED BRADFORD
RISING FAWN, GA: Rev. Fred A. Bradford, age 91, peacefully passed away Tuesday, March 24, 2015. He was born August 6, 1923, at New Salem, on Lookout Mountain, GA., to Walter and Lora (Kilgore) Bradford.
Fred was an Army veteran, and served during WWII in Okinawa, Japan. While stationed in Tacoma, Washington, he met and married Ruth L. (Steele) Bradford. Fred and Ruth raised their family of six children at New Salem, where they enjoyed 59 years of marriage.
Fred preached the “word of God” for 57 years, and was honored to preach over 300 funerals. He was a member of Sulphur Springs Baptist Church, of Valley Head, AL. where he pastured for over 40 years, until retiring in 2012. The past 3 years Fred attended New Salem Baptist Church.
Fred was also a barber, carpenter, rock mason, artist, coon hunter, and loved painting, boxing, and his “Braves”.
Fred was preceded in death by his wife Ruth L. (Steele) Bradford, his parents Walter and Lora (Kilgore) Bradford, and his three brothers Farrell Bradford of Trenton, GA; Arlie Bradford of New Salem, and Benny Joe Bradford of Ringgold, GA.
Fred is remembered by his sons, Allan Bradford (Kathy), Melvin Bradford (Martha), Gilbert Bradford (Donna), Dennis Bradford (Ranita), Gregory Bradford (Carolyn), and his daughter, Julia Morgan (Ronald), all of New Salem. Fred also leaves behind 14 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 Friday, March 27, 2015 in the Trenton Chapel of Moore Funeral Home with Rev. Jim Hixon , Bro. Jim Blaylock, Bro. Richard Byers, and family members officiating. Interment will follow in Hawkins Cemetery, New Salem.
Visitation will be held Wednesday 6:00 PM ~ 8:00 PM; Thursday 4:00 PM ~ 8:00 PM; Friday 12:00 PM ~ 2:00 PM
