EVELYN WILSON
BRYANT AL: Evelyn Peterson Wilson died on Sunday, February 01, 2015. She was 92 years old. Honoring her wish to remain at home, members of her immediate family were at her bedside. She was adored by her 10 grandchildren and each one felt specially loved.
Evelyn was born in 1922 to Lula and Raynold Peterson, who had moved to Sand Mountain as missionaries. The family helped set up schools, clinics, and churches on the mountain and touched many lives.
After leaving the mountain to study nursing at Fletcher Academy in North Carolina, Evelyn traveled across the country, working as far away as Los Angeles, California. She returned to the southeast and married John E. Wilson of Salem, South Carolina. After John graduated from podiatry school in Chicago, the couple settled in Savannah, Georgia, which was their home for 42 years. During that time, Evelyn worked as an obstetrical nurse and later became a nursing instructor at Savannah Technical College, where she taught for 18 years.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Raynold and Lula Peterson; husband, John Wilson; son, Raynold Wilson and granddaughter, Ora Jean Wilson.
Evelyn is survived by her daughters, Carmen (Yung) Lau, Birmingham, AL and Ruth (Carroll) Baker, Savannah, GA; son, John Archie (Debbie) Wilson, Savannah, GA; brother, Frank (Jean) Peterson, Keene, TX; sisters, Lucille Graham, Bryant, AL and Elsie Peterson, Panama City, FL; nine grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM EDT Monday, February 2, 2015 in the Chapel of Moore Funeral Home with Pastor Carlis Clinton officiating. Burial will be held in Floral Crest Cemetery, Bryant, Alabama.
Visitation will be Monday 12:00 PM ~ 2:00 PM
