TRENTON, GA: Elaine Margaret Underwood, age 78, passed away March 31, 2020. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and sister.
Widowed at thirty-eight years old, Elaine exemplified great strength and courage working two jobs and raising her nine children. Her family admits she was the strongest woman they know.
She was preceded in death by her husband Wallace Underwood; her companion and friend James Guthrie; sons David and Kevin Underwood; parents Ernest and Ada DeFord.
Survivors include her daughter Shirley (James) Klein; sons Robert (Julie) Underwood, Wally (Sue) Underwood, Patrick Underwood, Bryan (Tiffanie) Underwood, Miles Underwood, and Chris Underwood; nineteen grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren; sisters Elizabeth Betty LaBean, Dorothy Tapia, Ruth Clements, Carol Diamond, Linda Dabrowski; brothers Edward DeFord, Eugene DeFord; nieces, nephews, and a host of friends.
The family will schedule a Celebration of Elaine's Life at a later date.
