Dorothy Lee Sharpton went home to be with her Lord on 8-19-2020 at the age of 97. She was born on 1-15-1923 to Richard and Bessie Jenkins. She lived a long and fruitful life.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John D. Sharpton, special granddaughter - Cynthia Hunter and special son-in-law - Dee Cloud; siblings Ruby Jay Lance, Ruth Haggard, Pluma West, Grace West, and Junior Jenkins.
Dorothy and John had four children: Barbara Cloud, Jimmy (Barbara) Sharpton, Shirley Hunter West, and Wayne (Greta) Sharpton; eight grandchildren: Roger (Regina) Cloud, Don (Denise) Cloud, Sheila (Ricky) Williams, April Sharpton, Chris Sharpton, Heather Sharpton, Jacob (Leyla) Hunter, and Donnie Sharpton; thirteen great grandchildren, and special granddaughter Beth Ann Gannon.
While Dorothy left quite a legacy on this earth, she also left a hole in our hearts that can never be filled. She loved her church and family. She had a beautiful singing voice and sang specials with her husband for many years at church. She enjoyed a day with John on the river fishing then bringing home the fresh fish and frying it up for the family. We will miss her famous fried apple pies and hush puppies.
Dorothy was a gifted and creative seamstress. She used her talent to make quilts, doll clothes, beautiful dresses for her two girls - all without a pattern. Whatever the family needed, she made it.
She and John worked hard during gardening season. They planted and gathered vegetables for canning and freezing that the family enjoyed every Sunday when all gathered after church. What a feast she could make. Truly a woman that cherished her family.
She was a charter member of Shiloh Nazarene Church, Higdon, Al. Her famous quote to the family was “Blessed are the peacemakers”.
Funeral services will be held Saturday August 22, 2020 at 3:00 PM EDT in the Trenton Chapel with Brother Waylon Stewart officiating. Burial will follow in Payne’s Gap Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Saturday 1:00 ~ 3:00 PM EDT.
