Cynthia Eleanor Sarrell (“Mimi”), 84, of New Salem, passed away on Friday, April 16, 2021 after her second courageous battle with cancer. She was born in Washington D.C. on September 23, 1936 to Eleanor and Joseph Gordon. Cynthia spent her childhood traveling, living in places such as California, North Carolina, Hawaii, and Midway Island, as her father was transferred to multiple Marine Corps duty stations. Cynthia married the love of her life, Ivan Donald Sarrell on May 17, 1958 and had two sons, Andrew and Brian. The Sarrell family settled on Lookout Mountain on July 4, 1970.
Cynthia was a longtime member of the New Salem United Methodist Church. Cynthia’s father, mother, and husband preceded her in death. Her sister Dorothea, sons Andrew and Brian, daughter-in-law Cathy, grandchildren Ethan and Amelia, and several nieces and nephews survive her. She was grateful for the constant support of her family, friends, and her “angels” from Tapestry Hospice. Cynthia fought the good fight, she kept the faith, and she has gone “onward, ever onward.” We love you Mimi, and look forward to the day that we see you and Don together again.
