Vernard “Doc” Earl Hixson, 93, of Chattanooga, TN, passed away on March 21, 2020.
Doc proudly served his country in The United States Navy as a member of the Seabees during World War II and the Korean Conflict. He retired from the Electric Power Board of Chattanooga.
He was a member of Concord Baptist Church and had a passion for sports and the outdoors. Doc was a well-known baseball player up in the area and played several years of minor league baseball with the Cleveland Indians. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, hunting, boating, traveling, camping and gardening. Most of all he was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and brother.
He is survived by his high school sweetheart and loving wife of over 73 years, Marchetta McBryar Hixson; son, Perry (Stacye) Hixson; grandsons, Chase, Logan and Nolan (Scarlett) Hixson; sister, Bettye Hall; brother, Gene (Carolyn) Hixson; many nieces, nephews and a host of friends.
The family will receive a small gathering on Tuesday, March 24, 2020 from 4:30 - 6:00 at Moore Funeral Home in Trenton, GA.
He will be laid to rest in the Chattanooga National Cemetery.
The family will schedule a Celebration of Doc’s Life at a later date.
